Youth Programs
Summer Day Camps
Each year our summer programs utilize trained instructors to teach HOC youth a variety of STEAM-related skills, from building robots and conducting science experiments to artistic expression with technology and cultural arts projects in dance, art, and videography. The activities help keep our kids engaged and thinking, so that they are better prepared for the upcoming school year.
Out-of-School Activities
Whether after school or on days off, Community Partners and HOC schedule special events and activities for youth to be enriched in various STEAM activities. We organize field trips to technology-based organizations, museums, science centers, as well as special events in aviation, computer science and space exploration.
Since 2015, more than 1,200 HOC youth have participated in these STEAM related activities and programs.

Back-to-School Event
Helping get HOC youth ready for the new school year has been a signature Community Partners effort since our founding in 1999 and has grown to include more than new backpacks and fresh school supplies. Thanks to our collaboration with the Montgomery County Department of Recreation, youth receive those backpacks but also stay at the day-long event to participate in computer programming, gaming, science experiments and other activities that generate excitement about learning right before the start of school. Their parents also have the opportunity to learn about HOC’s programs, other services offered by community-based nonprofits and support available from the Montgomery County government.
Each year, more than 750 HOC youth and their families benefit from this great resource.
Tony S. Davis Memorial Scholarship
Community Partners established the scholarship program to honor the memory of HOC staff member Tony Davis, who tragically lost his life in 2000 while defending the residents in his community. This program celebrates the spirit of public service embodied by Mr. Davis, who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of HOC customers and served as a role model to many.
Scholarships are awarded to HOC students who excel in school and exhibit the leadership and civic-minded commitment to service that are central to the work of HOC. Past awardees have gone on to study at local colleges and universities and several Ivy League institutions, graduating as doctors, scientists and in other professions.
