Giving Thanks

As the crisp autumn air settles in and we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, the Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) and Housing Opportunities Community Partners (HOCP) are filled with gratitude for all our stakeholders who help make our work possible.

Especially this year — as we commemorate HOC’s 50th and HOCP’s 25th anniversaries — we give thanks to the HOC commissioners and executive directors, current and former, and to HOCP’s board of directors who have each played a vital role in molding our agency into one of the most innovative and effective housing organizations in the country.

It is because of their insightful leadership and forethought that tens of thousands of Montgomery County families have been able to live in safe, high-quality affordable housing and receive accompanying life-changing services.

We also express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has provided the charitable funding for our social service programs. Their generosity has helped empower HOC customers to pursue their dreams, realize plans that are best for them and their families, and propel their lives to a brighter future:

  • Adults attain employment with livable wages and start their own businesses;
  • Youth learn new skills that enable them to excel in school and pursue successful careers; and
  • Senior adults increase their community engagement and improve their health, helping them to stay independent and vibrant.

Equally important are HOC’s many partners, who are critical to our success. Through our collaborative efforts with local government officials, developers, architects, construction companies, law firms, financial institutions, and other entities, HOC has developed and refined a uniquely progressive approach to solving the affordable housing problem that is recognized, studied, and replicated. We are grateful for those partners’ investment and expertise.
